How it works

A shelf built by the people reading from it.

Photo Bookshelf started with a thread. Someone beginning a full-time photography journey asked for book recommendations, and the answers were too good to lose in a feed. This is that thread, kept. Celebrated classics, independent releases and self-published work, all in one place.

Adding a book

  1. 01

    Someone puts a book forward

Anyone can recommend a book they love, and photographers, authors and publishers can submit their own release. No account needed.

  2. 02

    A photo does the typing

Upload a cover, a shot of the book, or a screenshot. It reads the title, author, publisher, year, ISBN and type, then you correct anything it got wrong.

  3. 03

    A human reviews it

Every entry is checked before it appears. Duplicates get merged onto the existing book rather than creating a second listing.

  4. 04

    It joins the shelf

Approved books show a source label, so a creator submission is never dressed up as a community pick.

Why one book can have several voices

A book appears once. Recommendations stack on top of it, so when three photographers put forward the same title you see three reasons to read it rather than three duplicate listings. Every contributor keeps their own page listing the books they’ve put forward.

What this isn’t

Not a marketplace. There are no listings to buy or sell here, no commissions on sales, and no messaging between buyers and sellers. Purchase buttons lead straight to the creator or the store they chose. Listing is free for everyone, and editorial placement is not for sale. Discovery before commerce.

Some purchase links are affiliate links, which may earn Photo Bookshelf a small commission at no additional cost to you, which helps pay for running the site. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Affiliate relationships never determine which books are accepted or featured. Read the full disclosure.
